Partnership-Focused Dog Training in Coleraine – Train as a Team

Ditch the Rigid Routines – Let’s Make Training Fun
Hi, I’m Laura! I’m a dog trainer and coach with a passion for all things scent. Since 2013, I’ve been helping dogs and their humans through Walkies Dog Walking and Sniffer Paws NI, bringing expert care and training to the North West.

My mission? To help dogs and their humans understand each other better, so they can live together harmoniously (and actually enjoy it!).

Based in Coleraine, I offer dog training and walking services across the North West, including Portrush, Derry/Londonderry, Donegal, Ballymena, and beyond.

Whether you’re dealing with a mischievous pup, a hyper hound, or a dog who just needs to find their thing, I’m here to guide you.

My Approach
I believe dog training is as much about the humans as it is about the dogs. My job is to empower you to read your dog, build your confidence as a handler, and uncover new ways to enrich your dog’s life.
Using reward-based, scientifically researched techniques, I tailor every session to your dog’s unique personality and needs. That means no rigid routines or cookie-cutter advice - just creative, judgment-free solutions that work for your dog.

From mantrailing to scent detection and tracking, I create unique experiences that are as much about fun as they are about learning.
Why Choose Me?
I bring over a decade of experience working with reactive and fearful dogs, as well as dogs with training challenges like recall, lead walking, and focus issues. My approach focuses on uncovering what makes your dog tick and using that knowledge to turn challenges into opportunities.

Here’s what drives me:
-
Helping you see your dog as more than “high-energy” or “stubborn” but as a partner ready to learn.
-
Teaching alternative ways to engage your dog that go beyond hours of walking or overusing that ball launcher (trust me, there are better ways!).
-
Watching those “aha” moments when things click for both you and your dog.

My Credentials
I hold a wide range of qualifications, including:

-
Certified Scent Imprint for Dogs Instructor
-
Certified Scentwork Trainer, Trial Manager, and Judge
-
National Nosework Association ORT Assessor & Host
-
Separation Anxiety Pro Behaviour Consultant
-
Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Nottingham

I’ve also completed courses such as Scent for Six, Business in a Box, Behaviour Bible, and Puppy Lab with the School of Canine Science, as well as the Interactive Play Instructor Course with Craig Ogilvie.

FAQ
Q: Why do you coach me so much? Aren’t you supposed to be training my dog?
A: Here’s the thing—dog training is as much about you as it is about your dog. I’m here to teach you how to read your dog, communicate effectively, and build that amazing partnership. Think of me as your co-pilot in this journey.

Q: How long will it take for my dog to get this?
A: Every dog learns at their own pace, and that’s okay! It’s not about rushing to the finish line; it’s about celebrating the little wins along the way. When your dog “gets it,” you’ll know—and it’ll feel amazing.

Q: What if I mess up?
A: There’s no such thing as messing up. Mistakes are just opportunities to learn. Progress isn’t about perfection - it’s about showing up and trying.

Q: My dog isn’t into food or toys. Can they still do scent work?
A: Absolutely! Every dog has something that motivates them - we just need to figure out what that is. From praise to play to exploration, we’ll find what lights up your dog and use that to help them succeed.

Q: What if my dog is reactive/shy/hyper?
A: Bring them along! I love working with all kinds of dogs, especially the ones that don’t “fit the mold.” My classes are designed to create a supportive environment where you and your dog can grow together.
