SCENT DETECTION

Scent Detection (or Scentwork) is a fantastic sport which allows dogs to engage in an activity that enables them to use their 'super-sense', their amazing olfactory system. With a sense of smell that is 10,000 – 100,000 times stronger than ours - dogs just love using their noses!

I run an 8 week Beginners Scentwork Course, Sniffer Paws Improvers, Scentwork 1 to 1s, Workshops and Competitions both in the Coleraine area and across Northern Ireland.

The Beginners course is aimed at people and dogs who are new to scentwork.

​

Your dog will love training with you - and it's lots of fun!

As part of the course we will be teaching our dogs;

• To search a given area when asked using the 'find it' cue.

• To wait and listen to instruction.

• To search for food initially before introducing our target odour - Cloves.

• To offer a passive indication or 'Freeze' when they find the odour they are searching for.

• To ignore distractions and focus on the job they are doing!

 

We'll also introduce different search areas, including those used in NNA, ScentOps and Scentwork UK trials:

 

Table and Chairs and Household items, Exterior Searches, Kitchen Cupboards, Boxes and Bags, Vehicles, Walls and Fences.
